Rebar Pull Testing and Starter Bar Proof Load Verification Across NSW

Reo pull testing is the on-site proof load test that proves a post-installed rebar, starter bar or dowel has actually been installed the way the design assumed. iSafe Access carries out calibrated steel rebar pull testing across Sydney, the Greater Sydney region, the NSW East Coast and Canberra, using Hydrajaws M2008 heavy duty equipment, following AEFAC site testing methodology, and issuing reports your responsible engineer can sign against.

What rebar pull testing actually proves

A pull test does not tell you how strong the bar is. It tells you whether the installation is sound.

Design capacity for a post-installed bar comes from the product’s assessment and the engineer’s calculation. What no calculation can confirm is whether the hole was drilled to depth, whether it was cleaned properly, whether the adhesive was mixed and injected without voids, and whether it cured before load came on. Those are installation variables, and they are where post-installed reinforcement fails.

Proof load testing closes that gap. We apply a defined tension load to a sample of installed bars, hold it, and record what happens. A bar that holds the specified proof load without yielding or drifting has demonstrated correct installation. A bar that doesn’t has told you something important before the structure did.

Keep that distinction on your certification paperwork. Proof tests verify installation quality. They are not capacity tests, and any contractor telling you otherwise is misreading the guidance.

What we can test

Our Hydrajaws M2008 heavy duty rig with the dedicated re-bar adaptor tool covers three distinct jobs.

Post-installed and chemically anchored starter bars

Drilled-and-injected reo bars connecting new slabs, walls, footings and kickers to existing concrete. This is the bulk of the work, new pours tying into existing structure, remedial connections, and staged construction joints where the starter bars went in after the fact.

Cast-in bars and existing structure verification

Bars already cast into the concrete, where you need evidence of condition before new load is applied. Remedial works, adaptive reuse, heritage projects, and any situation where the original installation records are missing or don’t inspire confidence.

Reo and anchor substrates used for height safety

Where reinforcement forms part of the load path for a fall protection system, the same rig and the same methodology apply, just to a different acceptance criterion. This runs alongside our anchor point assessment and testing across NSW, so a single mobilisation can cover both the civil and the height safety scope.
